Fairy Tale Time

The fairy tales have been submitted! Miss Spadone and I will print and bind the books, and hand them out next week. Here is a sample of one of our original fairy tales, with a photograph of its author.
The Rich , The Poor,
and The Enchanted
Long, long ago in a cottage in the woods there lived a girl named Annabell with her mother, Rachel, and sister, Mollie. They were a very poor family. They got water from the fresh water stream behind the cottage, food from the village a little farther down the road, and berries from the wood for dessert.
One day Annabell was picking berries in the woods when she saw someone who looked like a princess. She had long flowing brown hair and a beautiful blue dress. She said her name was Isabella and that she would grant Annabell one wish because she wanted to disguise her wand. Annabell started to say “no thanks“ when she realized that she could wish that her family was rich, so she agreed. But when she accepted the wish, she suddenly turned into a frog and the princess transformed into a wicked witch. She had turned her into a frog because she was jealous that Annabell had a mother and she did not. The witch told Annabell that in order to turn back into human form, she would have to complete seven tasks with out the help from family. Annabell did not know this but the seven tasks would make the witch more powerful than ever before. Annabell, scared and worried, hopped home to see her mother crying. She told her mother everything. Her mother said she would do the seven tasks, but Annabelle told her how the witch had told her no one in her family could do it. Annabell’s mom was very disappointed.
Meanwhile in a land a few miles away from the cottage, Prince William was thinking of running away. He rode his horse until he came upon a spot of soft grass where he got off his horse and sat down to rest . The spot was right behind the cottage. Rachel went out and begged the young man to help with the seven tasks. He said he would so Annabelle gave him the list of things to do. He read them aloud. “Pluck a feather from the man eating bird, swim across the river of crocodilres, eat a worm, ride a bucking bronco, build a small houe, bake a dozen muffins, and finially jump into Lake Snake.”
“Wow, this is going to be interesting,” he said. The prince, who was eager to have the adventure, rode off to start the seven tasks. Annabelle and her family waited and waited and waited. On the second day Annabelle hopped down to the pond to swim, but when she got there she looked at her reflection, saw how ugly she looked, and hopped as fast as she could all the way back to the cottage.
On the third day, the prince came. He had done the first three tasks, plucking a feather from the man eating bird, swimming across the river of crocodiles, and eating a worm. ‘‘He actually ate a worm?“ asked Annabell. “Yes“ said her mother. In the next three days the prince had accomplished three more tasks, riding a bucking bronco, building a small house, and baking a dozen muffins. “May I have a muffin?“ asked Annabell. “No,“ said her mother, „You’re a frog.“
The next day Prince William finished the last task. He had jumped into Lake Snake. The moment Annabell heard he had done this, she felt tingling and suddenly she was human again.
Later on, the witch was thrown off the face of the earth, Annabelle married the prince, and Rachel and Mollie got to live in the castle too.

Budding Scientists
This morning, our class observed Mr. Ewen's Sixth Grade science class disect sharks! Some of the girls were brave enough to touch and hold some of the organs. Impressively, the Sixth Graders were able to identify the various organs and know where to find them inside the shark. The 9-B girls left this class ready to skip 10th Age and head right to Middle School!
